Objective: 

The main objective of the subject is to impart the knowledge about the basic elements of the Art, Drawing including line, volume, space, texture and color.

Unit I: 
Elements of Design

Introduction to Elements of Design- Color, Line, Shape, Space, Texture, Value.

Introduction to basic shapes- Circle, Square, and Triangle. Playing with shade and shadow. Lights & Texture- Texture through light, Patterns.

Unit II: 
Introduction to Principles of Design

 Balance, Contrast, Emphasis/Dominance, Harmony, Movement/Rhythm, Proportion, Repetition/Pattern, Unity, Variety.

Unit III: 
Introduction to Perspective

 Definition, Uses and Types of perspective: One-point perspective, Two-point perspective, Three-point perspective, Four-point perspective, Zero-point perspective. Bird’s eye view, Insect’s eye view, Forced Perspective. Converging Points, Vanishing Points, Observer’s Points.

Unit IV: 
Typography

 Anatomy of a letter & type, Typefaces, Typeface Family Typographic Measurement: – Point and Pica, Text Type and Display Type, Typographic Standards, Typographic Guidelines   

Unit V: 
Classification of Type

 Old Style, Transitional Period, Modern, Slab Serif, Sans Serif, Script, Decorative Etc. Selection of a TypeFace in Design-Clarity: Readability and Legibility, Integration with Visuals, Concept and Theme.
