Data Processing Fundamentals: Introduction, Data, Information and Data Processing, Data structure, Need for Data Processing, Data Processing Cycle and Functions (data origination, capture, sorting, merging, calculating, summarizing, managing output-results, storing and retrieving), Methods of Data Processing, Applications of Data Processing, Advantages and Disadvantages of Electronic Data Processing.

Computer Processing Techniques: Introduction, On line, Batch and Real time processing systems, Time sharing, Multi-Programming system, Multi-Processing system, Distributed data processing system.

File structure: Files, Logical and physical file, Basic File Operations,

Types of Files: Master, Transaction, Transfer, Work, Output, Reference, Dump, Security, Archival

File Organization: File Storage on HDD, Types of File Organizations (Unordered or heap or serial files, Ordered or sequential file, Hash file, Indexed Sequential, Direct access and Random files),  File Performance Measures.

Introduction to DBMS, File processing systems Vs DBMS Advantages and Disadvantages, Architecture, Data Independence and Database Abstraction,

Data Models: Relational, Hierarchical, Network, Object Oriented Data Model

Database Users: Designer, Application Programmer, Sophisticated Users, End Users

Entity Relationship Diagram: Entity, Relation, Relationship, Weak, Strong Entity, ERD

Introduction to RDBMS, Relational Database Components: Data Types, Field Properties, Fields: names, types, properties, default values, format, caption, validation rules.

Data Entry: Add record, delete record, Update Record, Data Sort, Find/Replace, Filter/Select, Re-arrange Columns, Freeze Columns.

Edit Tables- Copy, Delete, Import, Modify table structure. Create a Table in an RDBMS

Queries & Filter–Difference, Filter Techniques, SQL-DDL, DML, DCL, Constraints, Joins, Operators, Query Functions, TCL.

Introduction to Forms Types of Basic Forms: Columnar, Tabular, Datasheet, Main/ Subforms, add headers and footers, Forms Wizard.

Introduction to Reports, Types of Basic Reports: Single Column, Tabular Report Groups/Total, single table report preview report print report, Report Wizard.
