Objective: 

The course will enable the students to

1.  Develop  the  fundamental  knowledge of electronics by learning various  topics  viz. circuit analysis, network theorems, P-N diode  equation, transistors and  transistor amplifiers.

2. Learn  logic gates and  IC’s.

Basic Electronic Components Resistors.  Concept  of  resistance,  ohm’s  law,  types of  resisters,  colour   code. Inductors. Concept of  inductance,  inductive  reactance,  types of  inductors,  Concept of  capacitance, capacitive reactance, types of capacitors Definition  of  Open  and  short circuits,   Kirchoff’s  laws,  Superposition  theorem, Thevenin’s theorem, Norton’s theorem, Maximum  power transformer theorem (statements only)

PN Junction Conductors, insulator Semiconductors, Intrinsic and  extrinsic semiconductors, n and  p type semiconductor, p-n  junction diode, working, depletion layer,  VI characteristics of diode, forward and  reverse resistances of diode, breakdown voltage. Zener  diode, Tunnel  diode,Varactor diode  or Varicap  diode, Light emitting diode, schottky diode  (Only symbol  except working)

Bipolar Junction Transistor (Bjt) PNP  and   NPN  transistors,  current  components  in  BJT,  CB ,  CC ,  CE  configurations  of transistor and  bias conditions ( cut off, active, and  saturation regions) , input/output characteristics, transistor as an  amplifier. symbol  of FET, JFET, MOSFET, Thyristor -SCR

Integrated circuits Advantages and  Disadvantages of integrated circuits,  Inside an  IC package, IC classifications, Monolithic IC Fabrication of components on monolithic IC, IC packaging, IC symbols, Scale  of integration, some circuits  using  ICs

Boolean Algebra and Logic gates Analog and  Digital signals, Advantages and  Limitation of digital  systems,, Digital logic levels,   Number Systems (Binary,  Octal,  Decimal, Hexadecimal), Binary arithmetic, Number system conversion, Rules of Boolean  Algebra, Simplification of Boolean  algebra, DE Morgan’s Theorem, Logic gates (AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, Ex OR, Ex NOR), Combinational Logic Design. Standards representation for logical expression, Minimization of logical functions in terms of Maxterm and  Minterm, Simplifications of Boolean  equations using  K-maps, don’t care  conditions.
