Objective: 

To acquire a fundamental understanding of Graphic Design & Illustration from concept to final product. The students will learn and develop each project with fundamental elements of art and the principles of design.

Unit I: 

Overview of illustration basics: Graphics Overview, Raster graphics, Vector Graphics, Printing graphics, Creating new drawings & opening old ones, Page set up, Rulers, grids and guidelines, Smart Guides, Smart guide preferences, Selecting an object, Templates.

Unit II: 

Document Info, Grid, Art board/Workspace, Bounding Box, Setting preferences/customizing, Keyboard Shortcuts, Saving your work, exporting your work as a bitmap. Toolbars, Default toolbar, drawing, selecting/deselecting, moving objects & manipulating object centre points, Shapes, Drawing lines, curves, arc, Pen Tool Paths, Straight segments, Smooth points, Non-continuous curve.

Unit III: 

 

Overview of Image Editing, Using the tools, using the options bar and other panels, customizing the workspace, Image Essentials, Selections, Painting, Drawing, and Typing, Working with Layers, Channels and Masks, Filters and Distortions, Retouching and Restoration and Print.

Unit IV: 

 

Making simple image edits, Adjusting size, color, and contrast, Creating layers, Applying filters, creating and modifying paths, using painting tools, using tools for cloning and healing, creating effects with typographical tools, using focus and toning tools, creating shapes.

Unit V: 

 

Basic Interface: File Management, Setting Up the Page. Moving Around and Viewing Drawings, Moving Around the Current Page, Viewing Modes, Inserting and Deleting Pages, Changing Page, Customizing Options, Using Multiple Workspaces, Customizing the Toolbars, Using Shortcuts, Saving Defaults, Setting File Backups. Drawing and Shaping Objects, Selecting & Manipulating Objects, Transforming Objects, Outlining & Filling Objects, Arranging Objects, Using Layers.
