The department of Computer Science and IT organized and Days Faculty Development Programme, on “Advance Excel with Data Visualization” in association with Electronics and ICT Academy - IIT, Kanpur. The FDP was scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for 6 days i.e. 20thJuly 2021 to 25thJuly 2021.
The major objective of the FDP was to hone the data analytics skills of the participants. A hands-on experience was provided about advanced functions, formulas and other tools of Excel which are very useful in effective data analysis. FDP focused on MS – Excel because spreadsheets have been around for more than 30 years and they’re still valuable. MS-Excel stands out as a reliable and affordable tool for analytics. It provides the foundational structure for intelligent data and its expertise will deepen the understanding of FDP participants towards the process of analytics.
Along with this the participants were also given a hand-on experience of effective design practices for data visualization through Tableau software. Among the multiple data visualization products in the market, Tableau as a solution to data visualization has emerged successfully. It is an application for translating raw data into valuable insights, and has provided an unparalleled user experience for 16+ years. Participants will surely gain through this fastest-growing and most widely used business intelligence tool of the industry.
At the outset, the inauguration ceremony of FDP was held. Wherein, Dr. Anubha Jain, Associate Professor and Head (Dept of CS & IT) welcomed all the participants and the resource persons from IIT-Kanpur. She briefed about the aims and objectives of the FDP. Following the brief inaugural ceremony, all the sessions was taken up by resource person Mr. Rahul Gupta, Senior Trainer, E & ICT Academy, IIT Kanpur who is also a certified cyber security expert and has deep passion for MS - Excel. The FDP was coordinated by Dr. Astha Pareek and Dr. Geetika Vyas, Senior Assistant Professor (Dept of CS & IT).
The Faculty Development Programme turned out to be a great success, with almost 600 registrations and average attendance of 300. The FDP was very well organized. All the participants registered themselves and joined the sessions through the Zoom App. Participants also had to register on a portal developed by IIT-K on Moodle platform. Daily the demo files and assignment files were uploaded and 48 hrs. were given for the compilation. The system was easy to use and participants could very easily track their submission and progress regarding the same.
All the 06 sessions were very informative. The discussed areas were of great benefits for the participants. Participants were enlightened and benefited with the wisdom of the speaker Mr. Rahul Gupta. The FDP was attended by academicians and research scholars from different parts of country along with internal faculty members and received a warm feedback from all. The feedback of the participants is a proof of how useful each topic was and how well the topics were explained. The participants were able to understand the concept and due to the hands-on nature they were able to remember the procedure of applying the concepts demonstrated.
