An Online Guest Lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” was organized by the Department of CS & IT on 13 December 2022, through the online platform Google Meet by Dr. Pankaj Kumar DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. The lecture was attended by BCA/COSD (Cyber Law) students and the Computer Science Department faculty members.  

Dr. Kumar emphasized the need for the patent filing procedure, limitations, and other intellectual property rights. The session also included a discussion on other types of rights, such as trade secrets, publicity rights, moral rights, and rights against unfair competition. The speaker briefly introduced IPR and explained the related terms such as copyrights, patents, etc. He also highlighted that the purpose of intellectual property law is to encourage the creation of a wide variety of intellectual goods. Intellectual property rights refer to the general term for the assignment of property rights through patents, copyrights, and trademarks. The program proved to be very informative for all the participants and got a lot of appreciation from faculty members and scholars. A total of 45 students attended the session. The session ended with a vote of thanks to the guest speaker.
