R-CAT training on VMware

R-CAT Training on  VMware

Rajiv Gandhi Center of Advance Technology (R-CAT) is a Government of Rajasthan undertaking which was incorporated under Rajasthan Society Registration Act 1958, in the year 2022.

R-CAT conducts training program on advanced & emerging IT technologies. The Centre conducts certification courses of top tech giants like Oracle, VM Ware, SAS, Red Hat etc. with a duration ranging from one week to six months for professional graduates like BE/B.Tech., BCA, MCA, MBA, and M.Sc. (IT) etc. The targeted technologies are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI-ML), Blockchain, Augmented Reality/ Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Big Data Analytics, Robotics and Quantum Computing etc.

Apart from these domain skills R-CAT acts as a finishing school and envisage the development of soft skills leading towards overall personality development. These trainees are more adaptable in the market and will be more employable.

The training was scheduled from 18 August,2022 to 23 August,2022. A large number of students from all over Rajasthan took part in these trainings. It provided the platform to the students from all over the state to discuss about the current advancements in technology and to gain more knowledge about the same. Since, there were limited number of seats so only selected students from different universities attended the training. Four of our students (Sneha Agarwal, Tanishka Sharma, Purvi Lunawat, Damini Sharma) from IIS (Deemed to be University) from BCA Sem-3 participated in the training of VSphere Client of VMware Inc. It was a great opportunity for the students to get the exposure to the new technologies like virtualisation.

VMWARE—vSphere                                      (Install,configure,Manage )

VMware, Inc. is an American cloud computing and virtualization technology company with headquarters in Palo Alto, California. VMware was the first commercially successful company to virtualize the x86 architecture.

VMware's desktop software runs on Microsoft WindowsLinux, and macOS, while its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware ESXi, is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on server hardware without requiring an additional underlying operating system.

VMware vSphere (formerly VMware Infrastructure 4) is VMware's cloud computing virtualization platform.

It includes an updated vCenter Configuration Manager, as well as vCenter Application Discovery Manager, and the ability of vMotion to move more than one virtual machine at a time from one host server to another.

The students went to R-CAT training center at 9:00 am on 18th August,2022. The students were introduced to the trainers of VMware Mr. Neeraj Sharma and Mr.Vaibhav Doshi. Then the students were introduced to “Virtual World” operating system which is VMware is similar to hardware & software but the only difference is that it is virtualized OS. This is an environmental friendly OS which helps in reducing carbon footprints.

Then the students were given a brief description on VMware. vSphere uses the power of virtualization to transform data centers into simplified cloud computing infrastructures, enabling IT organizations to deliver flexible and reliable IT services.

The two core components of vSphere are VMware ESXi and VMware vCenter Server. ESXi is the hypervisor on which you create and run virtual machines. Each virtual machine has a set of configuration and disk files that together perform all the functions of a physical machine. Through ESXi, you run the virtual machines, install operating systems, run applications, and configure the virtual machines. Configuration includes identifying the virtual machine’s resources, such as storage devices. The server provides bootstrapping, management, and other services that manage your virtual machines.

vCenter Server is a service that acts as a central administrator for ESXi hosts that are connected on a network. vCenter Server is installed to run automatically on a preconfigured virtual machine. The vCenter Server service runs continuously in the background. It performs its monitoring and managing activities even when no vSphere Clients are connected and when no one is logged on to the computer where it resides. With vCenter Server, you can pool and manage the resources of multiple hosts. vCenter Server allows you to monitor and manage your physical and virtual infrastructure.

On the second day, the students were were taught about vSphere Client Server using the module. Also the IP Addresses for accessing the VSphere client. They learnt how to connect to the lab environment using their own assigned IPs.  After explaining the basic structure, the students were asked to perform the lab tasks as per given in the document.

On the third day, the students were taught about vSphere Appliance Management Console where all the tools stored and maintained when required by the user on vSphere Client Server. The information on vCPUs was given to students and then they discussed about hosts and clusters of vSphere. They were assigned other labs to perform and check the results that appear after performing them.

Also on 20th August 2022 there was inauguration ceremony of the R-CAT training center where honourable Chief Minister of Rajasthan Mr. Ashok Gehlot was invited as Chief Guest. He also interacted with students and students also got the opportunity to interact and to click pictures with the chief minister.

On the fourth day of training, the students were introduced how to configure vSphere Client Server. After doing configuration, they taught about the terms and conditions for issuing the license of the product. They also discussed about the types of switches required for connecting the physical server to virtual machines. The students were also taught about how to create templates of VMs and were informed about the port groups & content library.

Then they proceeded with labs to perform and check the results that appear after performing them.

On the last day of the training, the session started with managing the vSphere Client Server. They also explained about how the students can migrate one VM to another data center and the clones can be created for a particular VM.

The students were given the lab tasks to perform as per given in the document.

The training was concluded with the trainers informing the students about their e-learning portals where the students can have access for learning more about VSphere and students were made aware of the exam portals and certifications.
