Digital Transformation

Date: 11/08/2017

Number of participants: 60

The department of CS & IT at IIS University had organized a seminar on the upcoming trends and techniques in the computer science field. The seminar was conducted by Vikram Verma, trainer, NIIT Jaipur.

The seminar began with a brief overview of NIIT in India and the world, covering its history, the countries where NIIT centres are present and the recognition that NIIT has achieved since its establishment.

Then we progressed on to the seminar’s topic and found out about the benefits provided by NIIT’s project DigiNxt. The seminar also touched upon how a digital transformation expert is different from an IT professional on the basis of job opportunity, market growth, kinds of posts available, future scope etc. The seminar also broached how interviewers for most posts in the industry are looking for individuals with practical skills and knowledge and what type of questions are more common place in such a scenario, along with ways to prepare oneself for such questions.

Afterwards, the various technologies and techniques in the field were covered briefly. This included MEAN stack, Big Data (Hadoop), Data Science, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Agile SCRUM, IOT and new Robotics paradigms.

The trainers explained how DevOps, i.e. Development & Operation, takes place in an organization, how they are interrelated as well as how they are separate. Alongside the new meeting trends, i.e. Agile SCRUM meetings were explained. The two were then explained in conjecture with each other by taking a practical real life example which aspirants could relate to.

The seminar then turned towards the two most prominent technologies currently available, Big Data and Cloud Computing. Considered to be the two pillars of present day computer science fields due to the need to manage, store and access the huge amounts of data created every day by the billions of users situated all around the world. To showcase how serious the need for these two technologies was, an infographic was displayed containing projections regarding the amount of data produced and number of devices that would be connected to the internet in the next decade or so.

Internet of Things or IOT was also covered and discussion regarding how and why it was developed as well as its growth in current scenario ensued. The discussion also turned to cover the latest trend in web designing the MEAN stack which stands for MongoDB, ExpressJS, AngularJS and Node.js, and is the full stack JavaScript that can handle client (front end), server (back end) and database.

We wrapped up the workshop by learning about various sites which we can access to learn these techniques on our own as well as training programs for students at different levels of education.

In the end the seminar was a huge learning experience for everyone present and everyone took something from the same for future use as the young minds present there were inspired to learn about the technologies of the newest era i.e. the digital era.
