Workshop on Quality Assurance and Software testing tools

Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity: to familiarize the students of BCA about the concept of testing and the tools used for the same.

Description:

The Department of Computer Science and IT organized a guest lecture on “Quality Assurance and Testing Tools” led by Mr. Amit Agrawal, a certified Scrum Product Owner and Agile Consultant, Metacube Software Pvt Ltd, Jaipur. In this interactive session the students were given a brief description of the following:

o What is Testing

o Understanding of  types of testing

o Understanding of Agile 

o Tools & techniques used in testing

o Various types of tools for automation testing

o Defect Life cycle and severity of defects

 

The students were introduced to an automation testing tool “Selenium IDE”. The students were given a set of test cases to perform on a website. The steps to perform testing were explained thoroughly.  The students practically implemented test cases using the Selenium Plug-in. The students were also introduced with another plug-in TestNG for Eclipse IDE which supports multiple testing frameworks.

At the conclusion of the session the query round was held in which the students got an opportunity to put forward questions to sate their curiosity. The overall session was enlightening and the students got an exposure on a new tool. The session ended with a thank you note by expressing gratitude to Mr. Agrawal for taking out time from his busy schedule and making the students aware of the basics of Quality Assurance and testing tools.

Outcome of the activity/event/seminar/workshop: the students got a hands on demo of Selenium IDE, a testing tool often used for software testing and quality assurance.
